Our History

Abernathy Home Care was established as “How’s Work” in 1992 by Pamela Abernathy and her son Howard (Howie/How) Abernathy to meet the needs of North Shore residents in Massachusetts. Prior to founding the company, Pamela worked in foster care, other governmental agencies, and as a home care administrator for another agency. She is now retired and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, being in nature, and traveling.

Our business was founded to help older adults maintain independence and dignity at home and to offer meaningful employment opportunities for people to make a difference in the lives of older adults and the wider community. These foundational principles continue to guide the company today. In 2023, the company changed its DBA name to Abernathy Home Care.
