1972
Michael Berman leaves school at Southern Illinois University.
1973
Starts a job at a Pontiac dealership in Chicago (Grossinger), his first job in the auto business. With no experience he would run dealership errands in the morning, while he learned to sell cars in the afternoon. His inexperience was an asset when car salesmen used more aggressive sales techniques to sell. An honest approach and putting customers’ best interests in mind resonated well with his clients. Mr. Berman was promoted to special accounts manager, sales manager, general manager and finally, Vice President of Grossinger Auto Group, managing 5 franchises.
1988
With the assistance of Mr. Grossinger, purchased Mid City Nissan. Relocated it to a more suitable location. Grew the dealership from one that was underperforming in the area to 2nd in the Midwest and top 10 in the country.
1992
Mr. Berman was offered the Subaru franchise for the area and opened on Irving Park Road, which soon became the largest Subaru dealership in Chicago.
1995
Acquired the largest Nissan dealership in the Midwest – King Nissan. Renamed it Star Nissan “Where the Customer Was Treated Like a Star.” The next 14 years were devoted to growing his existing dealerships...and raising his sons. Ross and Todd both were interested in joining the business when they graduated college and directed their studies to position them to eventually lead our dealerships. Ross graduated from Northwood University with multiple degrees in automotive, management, marketing and finance. Todd graduated from University of Indiana, Kelly School of Business with degrees in Entrepreneurship and Operations.
2009
Opened Berman Infiniti of Chicago with his sons by his side. Immediately became the largest Infiniti Dealership in Chicago.
2013
Expanded to the state of Indiana opening Berman Infiniti of Merrillville. Which is now the largest Infiniti dealer in that state.
2015
Broke their all time sales record selling 7,868 new & used vehicles, only to break it again in 2016.
2016
Relocated and expanded the Mid City Nissan location to become Berman Nissan of Chicago. The dealership expanded from 40,000 to almost 300,000 square feet, unlimited customer parking, a 400 car indoor showroom and 50 service stalls.
