Broad Reach Hospice added more depth to their program by holding a Reiki training session for their team to incorporate complementary services to the End of Life care they provide. Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is an energy healing technique that offers a non-invasive and non-pharmacological approach to not only promote wellness, but also provide symptom relief. It is intended to help patients with stress management, relaxation, decreased perception of pain, reduced anxiety, and improved emotional balance and overall quality of life.
“This was an incredible opportunity that we opened to all disciplines on the hospice team. Our patients will now be enveloped in healing energy. I’m so proud of the team’s interest in learning new ways to elevate the care of our patients” said Carla Torres, RN, Hospice Administrator.
As skilled nursing facilities and assisted living residences across the state and even here on Cape Cod face closures, Broad Reach continues its tradition to celebrate this invaluable workforce. The nursing assistants and home health aides from Liberty Commons Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center, The Victorian Assisted Living Residence and Broad Reach Hospice were given a special “thank you” with a day of celebration that included on-site food trucks from Pizza Barbone and Joey’s Mexican Food and an inflatable obstacle course.
A study from Cooper’s Saratoga Institute found that many people in organizations prefer appreciation, purpose, and autonomy, rather than promotions and raises, to feel engaged. When team members view their work as exciting and challenging and are recognized for their hard work, they’re more likely to become inspired to do great work.
Carolyn Wass, Executive Director of The Victorian shared that “taking time out for fun goes a long way – my team felt appreciated and valued with this simple gesture and building a culture of appreciation helps us build loyalty."

We have cookouts all summer where employees can enjoy delicious food prepared by our amazing chef. Also it always a "dress down" theme day!
Length of service and Smooth Sailor Ceremony (employee appreciation activity)
Every month we celebrate our employees who have anniversaries 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 years with Champagne. Our director of Kitchen prepares a very nice spread and we also have a raffle every month for gift cards.
We have been recognized as a leader in our field by our peers on national state and local levels and are the only skilled nursing facility on Cape Cod to be operated under the same management and ownership as long as we have.
