Over 25 years of providing unmatched services to adults with developmental disabilities
Our History
Life Opportunities Unlimited (LOU) was incorporated in 1995 in order to meet the anticipated increase in demand for residential programs from the closing of the North Princeton Developmental Center and the state community waiting list. The agency was founded by Gail Tamirian-Mandeli, who has been involved in the disabled movement since the mid-1970s and currently serves as LOU’s Executive Director.
Our first group home located in Glen Rock, NJ opened in 1998. The LOU Senior Day Program opened in 1998 as well. Since then, we have opened five more residential programs both through new development and through acquisitions. Executive leadership continuously evaluates both organic and inorganic growth opportunities to ensure that new development will adhere to our core principles, a concept we refer to as strategic development.
All of our programs are approximately 5 miles from The Central Offices at 50 West. Program management carefully and regularly assess the balance between providing client support while not infringing on individual client growth.
Our Group Homes…
Our group homes are single family homes located in lovely suburban communities that operate on a single gender or co-ed basis. Each residence is home to 4-5 individuals. While the technical objective of a group home is to keep the residents safe and to provide for their basic needs, LOU’s objective is to enrich their lives and help each client to develop to his or her greatest potential.
It is because of who we are and how we do things that over 30% of the clients we serve residentially come to us as transfers from other agency’s group homes.
Our Day Program…
Our day program is a senior citizen day program that focuses on developing everyday life skills to allow the participants to have more control over their lives and develop new interests.
Our curriculum provides the perfect balance between community integration and center based activities.
