Service Career Timeline

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th

1st — Service Porter

  • Greets customers entering the service area
  • Controls service traffic flow and parking
  • Move vehicles to the appointed parking area
  • Bring customer cars to the front of service when directed
  • Ensure customer cars are clean after their service visit

2nd — Quick Lube Technician

  • Oil changes
  • Rotate, repair, and replace tires
  • Perform multi-point inspection, check and fill all fluids
  • Learns to operate dealership DMS
  • Learns to safely and accurately perform repairs
  • Learns to communicate and document repairs that were performed

3rd — Apprentice

  • Performs duties of the Lube Tech as needed
  • Works with certified technicians to gain experience
  • Continues factory training toward certification
  • Communicates with service advisors and parts counter
  • Performs repairs with light supervision as new skills are obtained

4th — Main Line Tech

  • Diagnoses and repairs warranty and customer pay vehicles
  • Continues factory training
  • Road-test vehicles to ensure quality of repair work 
  • Advances career and specializes in chosen skill category

5th — Master Tech

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities of line technician
  • Completes factory training in all categories
  • Mentors new technicians and apprentices

6th — Shop Foreman

  • Overseeing technicians
  • Maintaining shop flow/scheduling 
  • Diagnosing problematic vehicles
