Building a Legacy
The Sport Automotive dealership group was started in 1950 by Robert Hicks. The first dealership was called Hicks Chevrolet and was located on Georgia Avenue in Washington, D.C. George Fogarty, Mr. Hicks son-in-law soon joined the business. He moved the Chevrolet dealership from DC to its current location in Silver Spring, MD in 1968 and renamed the dealership Sport Chevrolet. George Fogarty owned 17 dealerships at one point from Buffalo, New York to Florida. George’s son Robert Fogarty started in the business after working at a dealership in Orlando, Florida in the late 1970s. Robert Fogarty became president of the organization in 1984 and purchased the Honda dealership in 1996 from Wilson Howes. Sport Honda is now run by Robert’s son, Robert Fogarty, Jr. who represents the 4th generation of the family, along with his brother Gibbs Fogarty who runs Sport Chevrolet.
