Awards

The WEDCO District Health Department and Home Health Agency (WEDCO) is the leading institution tasked with safeguarding and improving the health and wellbeing of Harrison, Nicholas and Scott Counties. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of health and safety for our community. In order to ensure we are providing the best service possible, our department has embarked on the journey to become accredited. Public Health Accreditation, overseen by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), is a voluntary national program designed to help standardize and improve public health practices and the quality of service offered in health departments nation-wide. The process requires the close inspection of our core procedures, processes, and policies to ensure that they not only comply with the rigorous standards set by PHAB, but that they are best practices designed to ensure our community receives the highest-quality service.

As of June 1st 2017, WEDCO has over 75% of the total required documentation collected for our PHAB application! Currently, only a total of 178 health departments nationally (12 from Kentucky) have achieved Public Health Accreditation.

The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) has released a video showcasing the benefits accreditation brings to health departments and communities. Follow the link below:

The accreditation assessment process provides valuable, measurable feedback to health departments on their strengths and areas for improvement. Applying for accreditation is our promise to the community that our agency standards are high, our vision and mission are clear and being a voice, partner and leader in building stronger, healthier and safer communities is our highest priority.
