Kunes was started by Gregg Kunes in 1996 when he purchased the Delavan Ford-Lincoln store.  Gregg’s father is also a dealer, and Gregg has worked throughout all operations – starting in the parts department, working through sales (Gregg was ranked the #1 Lincoln Salesman Nationally for a few years in a row) and all levels of management before becoming a dealer himself. Gregg is dedicated to running Kunes Country with Christian values – seeking to better the lives of our employees, customers and people in the communities we serve.

Gregg’s not alone in Kunes… in addition to all of us, nearly all of his family are integral parts of the company.   His wife, Debbie, visits the stores regularly and five of his six kids are involved with the daily operations of the group, currently in the following roles:  Scott is our COO, Danny is a Manager in our Northern Illinois Region, Kelli is our Events & Special Projects Manager on the corporate marketing team, Timmy is the General Manager of our Stoughton store, and Mikey is our Corporate Finance Director.  You can expect to see all of them around from time to time, and they are always available to assist you.

A number of Kunes locations have been awarded Automotive News’ BEST DEALERSHIPS TO WORK FOR AWARD, and we expect that all of our team members, at every location, feel that they can claim this honor as well.  Not only should you find your managers and supervisors supporting, but we also have a number of pastors on staff to assist you with any needs you have with complete confidentiality. 

Our History & Our Future

As noted, Gregg started Kunes in 1996 at the Delavan Ford-Lincoln store. Since then, he’s steadily added to the Kunes Auto Group organization:

2004 – Delavan Chevrolet-Cadillac
2005 – Mt. Carroll (Ford, CDJR, Chevy & Buick)
2006 – Antioch Ford
2013 – Elkhorn CDJR & Elkhorn Chevrolet-Buick-GMC
2014 – Macomb (CDJR, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC & Cadillac)
2015 – Oregon CDJR, Sterling Ford-Lincoln, Sterling CDJR-Buick and Morrison Chevrolet (all on one day!). Monmouth CDJR came later that year.
2017 – Quincy Honda & Hyundai
2018 – Stoughton & Woodstock
2019 – Elkhorn RV in February, Morrison CDJR in September, Green Bay RV, Sheyboygan RV, Freedom RV & Destination RV in October and Platteville & Barneveld Group in October.
2020 – Opened Stoughton RV in March, MadCity Mitsubishi in May, and two Belvidere locations in June.  Our Monmouth location expanded to offer RVs in July, East Moline and LaCrosse RV in August, and Lake Geneva in December
2021 – Acquired Galesburg Toyota, Fox Valley RV and our second Sheboygan RV location in February.  In April, opened our first used-car only store, Ignition Certified Pre-Owned.

Kunes Auto Group will continue to grow as new opportunities arise.  We are dedicated to building the lives of our team members, and always seeking to grow future managers from within our dealership family.

The Kunes Auto Group is committed to giving a full 10% of our profits (before EBITDA) to charities through the Kunes Family Foundation. Much of this is given to community initiatives and largely those that help people in need. A portion is also given to missions both domestic and abroad. Our motto of Faith, Family, Giving Back sets us apart from most dealership groups, but what also allows us to expand and continue succeeding is our team and the support structure we have built. New stores are surrounded by a team of seasoned professionals to help with the heavy lifting of a new store and lead them to a path of success. We believe in continuing improvement through careful evaluation of our data and processes, training and re -training, and networking with other successful people in the field through meetings like 20 Groups and other opportunities.

Each of our dealerships are individual corporations with Gregg Kunes as the sole owner. Our Executive Leadership Team, led by Gregg Kunes, casts the vision and lays the foundation for the group. We are dedicated to giving our stores the tools and support they need to succeed.
